July 10: Thick Layers of Cloud

Thick layers of cloud

obscured the sky

last night so the stars

and almost-full moon

were invisible; even

fireflies took the night off,

hiding somewhere,

sheltering from wet

darkness in grass and trees.

Evening rain often eclipses

the magic of twilight,

bringing nighttime prematurely

to all living things.

February 9: Too Much Nose Blowing

Too much nose blowing in this lovely hotel room where I wish I'd slept.
