With the help of heartfelt prayer and medication
have I prepared for this day, as I return to work,
earnestly hoping that this curséd cold has lifted
and that three days of penitential suffering proves
sufficient during this first week of Lent, wondering
if Jesus may have been tested by this same affliction
when he faced Satan in the wilderness entirely alone,
without benefit of pseudoephedrine and sympathy.
