February 28: Flames of Fear

I don’t need to hear the news to know the world

is falling apart. I don’t need to read incisive

analysis to know that things are messed up

perhaps beyond repair. I don’t need live video

feeds from Washington to know our leaders

are once again betraying our trust, selling

us out and not necessarily even to the highest

bidder, are gleefully throwing under the bus

every vulnerable person they can find as fuel

for the flames of bigotry that cruelly distract

from the institutionalization of corruption.

No, I can sense the suffering and fear

in the whisperings of the trees as they

try to keep up the pace of purifying our

putrid air, struggling to catch dark particulate

matter and release life giving breath.

February 9: Too Much Nose Blowing

Too much nose blowing in this lovely hotel room where I wish I'd slept.
