We are surrounded by reminders of the cyclical
nature of all life: season followed by season,
tides rising and falling, day after night after day,
seed to plant to flower to fruit to seed–
and yet, despite these and other reminders,
we insist on going about as if everything in our lives
exists only in straight lines toward either
eternal unqualified bliss or unending misery.
No wonder we are so often desperately unhappy!
